Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
Agriculture is the primary interface between people and the environment, and therefore, agricultural transformation is essential to meet the global challenges of reducing poverty, food security, and environmental protection. To minimize the over-dependence on pesticides in crop protection, and to avoid harmful effects to the environment in general and hazards to the users of pesticides in particular, the Government of India has adopted Integrated Pest Management (IPM) as a main plank of the Government Policy on plant protection since 7th plan period. This program emphasizes surveillance for need based and timely application of selective pesticides.
