1. World Wetlands Day - 02nd February
Theme in 2024: Wetlands and human wellbeing.
On this day, in 1971, the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance was signed. Wetlands are a very important part of our biodiversity and it is essential to see that they are well protected. Each year since 1997, the Ramsar Secretariat has provided materials to help raise public awareness about the importance and value of wetlands.

2. National Science Day: 28th February
Theme in 2023: “Global Science for Global Wellbeing”.
28th of February, 1928 was the great day in India when an invention in the field of Indian science was completed by the famous Indian physicist, Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman. To commemorate and honour this event always in the future, 28th of February was asked to the Indian Government to designate as a National Science Day in India by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) in the year 1986.

3. World Wildlife Day – 03rd March
Theme in 2023: " Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation ",
World Wildlife Day is observed on 3 March in order to celebrate the flora and fauna of the world and also raise awareness about them.
It was decided by the United Nations General Assembly on 20 December, 2013 at its 68th session that the World Wildlife Day will be celebrated on 3 March. The reason this date was selected for the occasion was that the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was signed on 3 March, 1973

4. World Forestry Day – 21st March
Theme in 2023: " Forests and health."
The UN General Assembly proclaimed 21 March as the International Day of Forests in 2012. The Day celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of forests.

5. World Water Day – 22nd March
Theme in 2023: Accelerating the change to solve the water and sanitation crisis '.
This is an adaptation of the central promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: as sustainable development progresses, everyone must benefit.
World Water Day is celebrated every year on 22nd of March by the people all across the world. The day was established to be celebrated as an annual event in the year 1993 by the decision of the United Nations General Assembly. This campaign was declared as a World Day for Water to be celebrated on 22nd of March each year to increase the awareness among the people about the importance, need and conservation of water.

6. World Meteorological Day – 23rd March
Theme in 2023: The Future of Weather, Climate, and Water Across Generations.
World Meteorological Day takes place every year on 23 March and commemorates the coming into force on 23 March 1950 of the Convention establishing the World Meteorological Organization. It showcases the essential contribution of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services to the safety and wellbeing of society and is celebrated with activities around the world. The themes chosen for World Meteorological Day reflect topical weather, climate or water-related issues.

7. Earth Day - 22nd, April
Theme in 2023: “Invest in our planet”.
World Earth Day is celebrated every year as an annual event by the people all across the world on 22nd of April in order to increase the awareness among people about the environment safety as well as to demonstrate the environmental protection measures. First time, the world earth day was celebrated in the year 1970 and then started celebrating annually on global basis by almost 192 countries.

8. World Migratory Bird Day – 09th, 10th May
Theme in 2023: “Water and its importance for Migratory Bird”
World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is an annual awareness-raising campaign highlighting the need for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats. It has a global outreach and is an effective tool to help raise global awareness of the threats faced by migratory birds, their ecological importance, and the need for international cooperation to conserve them.

9. International Day for Biological Diversity – 22nd May
Theme in 2023: “From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity”
Biodiversity is the foundation for life and for the essential services provided by ecosystems. It therefore underpins peoples’ livelihoods and sustainable development in all areas of activity, including economic sectors such as agriculture, forestry, fisheries and tourism, among others. By halting biodiversity loss, we are investing in people, their lives and their well-being.
The UN has proclaimed 22 May the International Day for Biological Diversity to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.

10. World Environment Day – 05th June

World Environment Day is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. The host Every World Environment Day has a different host country, where the official celebrations take place. The focus on the host country helps highlight the environmental challenges it faces and supports worldwide efforts to address them.
11. World Day to Combat Desertification & Drought – 17th June
Theme in 2023: “Her Land. Her Rights "
The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed every year to promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification. The day is a unique moment to remind everyone that land degradation neutrality is achievable through problem-solving, strong community involvement and co-operation at all levels.

12. World Nature conservation day – 28th July
Theme in 2023: " Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet ".

13. International Biodiesel Day – 10th August
Theme in 2023: “Ustainable future of Automotive industry with Biofuels
World Biofuel Day is observed on August 10 to raise awareness of the importance of non-fossil fuels as a substitute for conventional fossil fuels. This initiative will enable non-fossil fuel cleaner consumption patterns. The government of India has raised various schemes to enhance the biofuel sector. World Biofuel Day was observed in the year 2015 by the Ministry of Petroleum and Gas. These alternative fuels will add to the environmental well-being of the country.

14. World Ozone Day/ International Day for the preservation of the Ozone layer – 16th September
Theme in 2023: Montreal Protocol: fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change ".
World Ozone Day is observed on September 16, every year. It is celebrated to spread awareness among people about the depletion of the Ozone Layer and search for possible solutions to preserve it. On this day, people from all over the world are expected to join the Montreal protocol to join the talks and seminars.

15. World Water Monitoring Day: 18th September
World Water Monitoring Day is an international education and outreach program that builds public awareness and involvement in protecting water resources around the world by engaging citizens to conduct basic monitoring of their local water bodies.
15. Zero Emissions Day: 21st September
Theme in 2023: “Let the Earth Breathe”
The purpose of Zero Day is to give the earth a ‘rest day’ – from biblical times, the idea of a day of rest at regular intervals was promoted as a good thing, and with the pace of life increasing to the point where we simply don’t slow down anymore, re-instituting the rest day concept is a very necessary. We all need a chance to shut down and reboot every now and then, and the same applies to the environment. The date of 21 September was selected to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Peace.

17. Green Consumer day - 28th September
Green Consumer Day is observed globally on September 28th every year. On this day an awareness is made to encourage purchasing only eco-friendly products which does not pollute the environment. This highlights the problems of consumerism and its impact on the environment. We should focus primarily on awareness raising and the importance of recycling-reusing and reducing waste material.

18. World Rivers Day: Every last Sunday in September
World Rivers Day is a day to celebrate our rivers by increasing awareness of water related issues and promoting core values associated with sustainability, conservation and river stewardship. This event will help bring a greater awareness to the rivers that we use for drinking water, industry, agriculture, residential uses and recreation. As well, it will increase awareness with historical and cultural issues.

19. World Habitat Day: First Monday in October
Theme 2023: Resilient urban economies.

20. Wildlife Week – 01st to 08th October
Theme in 2023: “Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation”
Wildlife Week is annually celebrated across India between 2nd to 8th October with an aim to protect and preserve the flora and fauna of India. The Indian Board of Wildlife was constituted and the idea of Wildlife Week was conceptualised in 1952 to raise the awareness about the long term goals of protecting the wildlife of India. Initially, in 1955 the Wildlife day was celebrated which was later upgraded as the Wildlife Week in 1957.The first Wildlife Week was observed in 1957.

23. World Soil Day: 5th December

24. National Energy Conservation day - 14th December
